Ani tucks a brown curl behind her ear. “Because you like each other.”
“And you know that how?” My voice keeps a neutral tone despite my growing interest.
“She looks at you like she wants to have your babies.”
I choke on my sudden intake of air. My fist pounds against my chest as I take a deep inhale. “I definitely don’t think that’s true.”
“You’re right. I wanted to see your reaction.”

We don’t have quick skip passes for that.” I try to stop, but his hand finds the small of my back, pushing me forward. Heat spreads from the area his palm covers.
He points at his face. “You’re looking right at it.”
I snort. “God, that was so corny. I can’t even believe it came out of your mouth.”

chuckle under my breath as I lean over and talk into her ear. “Gentle is the last thing I want to be around you.”
Her skin breaks out in goosebumps. “What are you doing?”
“Having fun.”
“Did I miss the start of the apocalypse or something?”

Me: Who hurt you? Do we need to find their HP address?
Zahra: Haha so funny. Are you expanding your talents to the computer hacking business?
Me: For you, I’d consider it.

One ghost pops up from a gravestone, and Rowan jumps in his seat, smacking his chest against the safety bar in front of us. It groans from his weight but stays in place.
A rush of laughter explodes out of me. Tears form in my eyes, and I can’t blink them away fast enough. “Oh my God. That reaction was totally worth riding with you.”

Lucifer: This old dog has plenty of tricks he could teach you.
Did he make a sexual joke? My whole body burns from his reply, and I can’t come to grips with his shift in personality.
Rowan replies again before I have a chance to move past my shock.
Lucifer: That was highly inappropriate.
Me: I think your phone has been hacked.
Lucifer: I can assure you it hasn’t, but I can’t say the same about my brain. I tend to do stupid things around you.
