The Invisible Man
The Invisible Man (1897) is one of the most famous science fiction novels of all time. It was written by H.G. Wells and helped establish him as the "father of science fiction." It tells the story of a scientist named Griffin who discovers the secret of invisibility and uses it on himself. Griffin found a way to change a body's refractive index to that of air so that it neither absorbs nor reflects light. He carries out this procedure on himself and renders himself invisible, but fails in his attempt to reverse it. Griffin has become an iconic character in horror fiction because of his practice of random and irresponsible violence. The book has inspired several television shows, films and comics which were all notable for its vivid descriptions of the invisible man. This is H.G. Wells' classic story of obsession, murder, and science run amok.
