The Virgin Suicides is Jeffrey Eugenides first novel, as well as Sofia Coppola's first feature film. The book, now iconic amongst many teenage girls and 20 somethings, centres the life of five Lisbon girls who are stifled by their conservative parts and the cloying atmosphere of their suburban neighbourhood. Coppola's film is dreamy, wistful and full of nostalgia, but the book too, evokes plenty of summer memories that stick in your brain for years to come.
