John Kingsley did not intend to fall for his best friend's younger sister. She is only here for a short while, interning with his office while she waits for the semester to start anew.
John is an honorable man and a proud Alpha Werewolf. He knows better than to covet that which is meant for another and she is promised to another, a respectable Cat Shifter like herself, one of the purebloods. She will be married to someone like her.
But he wants her. And he's prepared to be underhanded to steal her and make her his own.
~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
“You mentioned that there is a room for rent in your building?” Theodore asks him as he is talking to private investigators about her, asking them to gather information about her and her kind, what courtship rituals he is meant to partake in if he means to woo her.
“Yes,” he answers without thinking. If there is no room, he will make room. He owns several of the condominiums near his office buildings because he does not enjoy commuting long hours and will not allow his employees to suffer the long drives. “It's likely not as fancy as your high blood prefers,” he adds jokingly.
“I'm sure I'll live,” he says.
He had been thinking of a way to orchestrate moving them into somewhere close to his apartment so he can find an excuse to visit Theodore and thusly Inara, but it would seem that fate is smiling down at him. “I wasn't aware that your work will keep you here for long enough to require an apartment?”
“It's not,” he hums in agreement. “I want to get a place for Inara,” he confesses. “But she refuses to let me buy her a house and there really aren't that many nice houses for sale near your office. Viviana told me that you own several buildings near your workplaces.”
“I do.”
“That will cut down her commute.”
“That's the idea, yes,” he says and arranges for him to set up a viewing. He shoots off a text to Jack, whom he had put in charge of all of his rental units. A moment later, he shoots a text to Viviana. Technically, this is not within her job scope, but she is familiar with Theodore and a familiar face would put the siblings at ease. He makes a note to Jack so that he would place them in a location close to his own and to offer them steep discounts on rent. As much as he wishes he could evict his neighbors and move her close by, he recognizes that would be a step too far.
