    The refusal of the poet to let go of his beloved and the anguish it brings him when her name is mentioned

    This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!"—

    Merely this and nothing more.

    The impact Lenore's absence has on the narrator. Moreover as said above, her passing affected significantly the poet to the point that he's daydreaming she will return.
