Tim had seen her walk in, like nearly every other man in the bar. He’d been alone and lonely since before he’d walked in, and not being a part of a group, he expected to go home alone.

Tim saw her push her chair back under her table as she said a few words to her friends. Then, Marcia walked toward him, and he was seized by a moment of panic. She could have been heading to the bar or the restroom, but he knew she wasn’t. Marcia was twisting a ring on her right hand and coming straight toward him. Tim stood as though petrified, unsure what game she was playing.

As she drew near, Marcia was pleased by the look of surprise on his face. He was tall, well over six feet, and wore long dark hair and a dark mustache. There was nothing unusual about his clothes, showing neither wealth nor poverty.

He had to bend toward her to hear what she had to say in the noisy bar. “You remind me of Heathcliff from the latest Wuthering Heights movie.” She’d watched the movie three times because of her intense physical reaction to the actor.
