The series was designed for small gatherings of 8–12 people and includes an Introduction, a Guide to watching Godspeed in Community, 7 video-based discussion chapters, and Instructions for Facilitators. Each session develops a theme from the film Godspeed, and follows a pattern:
Gather (3–5 min) — each session begins with a gathering story from Methlick Parish illustrating the theme.
Watch & Reflect (~1:20) — then comes additional film footage (10 min) of Eugene Peterson, N.T. Wright, Matt Canlis and others whose voices together lead participants into a deeper understanding of the theme. The exploration of the theme has two parts: Theme 1 (35 min) is discussion based while Theme 2 (35 min) invites participants to work at a more personal level. Both involve “Solo” reflections and then small group “Trio” discussions so that the video can be translated into each person’s life and community.
Pray (~:20) — the session winds down with a meditation on a short Scripture passage, allowing participants to prayerfully contemplate the theme and look for an invitation from the Lord. If time allows, the “creative response” functions to help participants pull together the entire session into one place. These act as summaries and are often the most memorable take-away from each session.
