Captain Fracasse is an 1863 novel by Théophile Gautier. It is set in the seventeenth century. The novel tells the story of the baron of Sigognac during the reign of Louis XIII of France, a nobleman who decides to abandon his castle to join a theatrical troupe out of love for a young actress. As a result of numerous adventures and a spiritual transformation, the protagonist comes to a happy ending with the love of his life.
