One wonders if Cartland enjoyed writing her female characters short of everything, including articulation, common sense, self-esteem. I've been reading her books on and off for 26 years and I'm literally in shock. There's a distinct pattern she follows (most serial novelists do) which degrades the key female character at every turn.
