A Touch of Darkness

Persephone liked being organized, but more than that, she liked being busy.

I have always loved Greek Mythology. It’s creepy and violent and vicious, and when it came to the tale of Hades and Persephone, I was always intrigued by Persephone, who was the Goddess of Spring but also the Queen of the Underworld. She, like so many, straddled the light and the dark.

Still, she had expected something from her mother—even an angry text.

Nothing was a stab in the heart.

I did the only thing I could do—kept you hidden and safe.”

“No, not safe,” Persephone said. “You did it so I would always need you, so you would never have to be alone.”

She had never wanted to be a disappointment, but more than that, she didn’t want to be a prisoner.

“No, because you’ve never been able to decide what you want because you value your mother's happiness over your own!”

Was I an easy target? Did you look at my soul and see someone who was desperate for love, for worship? Did you choose me because you knew I couldn't fulfill the terms of your bargain?

Damn, the Lord of the Underworld was charming.

“What?” she asked.

“Let me worship you,” he said.

She remembered the words she had whispered to him in the back of the limo after La Rose. You will worship me and I won’t even have to order you. His request felt sinful and devious and she reveled in it.

“You are beautiful. I have never wanted like I want with you.”
