Returning from his own age of darkness, Vesuvius finds himself glimpsing a world that existed beneath him, beneath his nose, and his understanding. The lessons he wanted with Verana come true, in a new form, as he seeks the wisdom of a monk of elves. Through guidance he searches himself, his past and his future, for the answers to unlocking what keeps him from the woman in his dreams, Verana.
For others, Vesuvius' return to the light is nothing short of a headache or a terror. Haunted by old nightmares and bad memories, there are few Vesuvius can trust, and fewer he can accept as friends. To supporters, it is all up to him to prove that he is no longer a war criminal.
