During three years of the voyage, he raided and plundered the rich Spanish territories in the New World, captured a small fleet of enemy ships, rescued the real-life Robinson Crusoe, and circumnavigated the globe. At the same time, he was able to balance the risk and wellbeing of his crew, showing a rare case of humanity in the severe conditions of sea voyages of those times.
