The story is set in a dystopian society, that it a version of Chicago. “Divergent” is often compared to other novels of the same genre such as “The Hunger Games” and “The Maze Runner.” They have the similar theme and target audience.
Veronica Roth says that she got this idea of writing the series when she was studying in college. Like the earlier novels of the same theme, the society is divided into personality types in this novel.
