Pamela Murray

Pamela Murray is a British author best known for her crime fiction. She writes gripping thrillers set in the North East of England. Born and raised in Boldon, a semi-rural village near Newcastle, Sunderland, and South Shields, Pamela spent most of her life in this region. Her passion for books began early, and she was thrilled when she first saw her name in print at age 11 on a book label gifted by her junior school.

Pamela started writing in her teens, sharing short stories with a school friend. The hobby continued sporadically for years. It was rekindled a decade ago when the same friend introduced her to a local writers' group. Pamela initially aimed to pursue a career in journalism but ended up working in a public library. This career shift did not diminish her interest in literature.

Pamela's writing career took off with her Manchester Murders series. The series includes three books: Murderland (2019), Bloodline (2019), and Duplicity (2019). The series follows DI Joe Burton and DS Sally Fielding as they solve complex murder cases in Northern England.

In Murderland (2019), Burton and Fielding investigate a suspicious death in a care home, leading to the discovery of more bodies with playing cards beside them. The press's involvement forces the police to bring in a criminal profiler. Pamela recalls, "I wanted to create a story where the detectives face pressure from all sides."

Bloodline (2019) deals with the murder of an undercover cop whose death links to a cold case, requiring Burton and Fielding to unravel a web of lies. Duplicity (2019) sees Hannah Sanderson, a retired officer, noting similarities between recent deaths and a crime novel and connecting the death of Fielding's father to the mystery.

Pamela also authored the Burton and Fielding Series: Signs (2022), also known as Dead to Me, The Raven (2022), and Death is Relative (2023). Her standalone novels include In Absentia (2023) and The Cross Woman (2023).

"Living in Boldon, I draw inspiration from the local landscape and community," Murray says.
