Ramon Hervey

Ramon Hervey is an American music executive, entertainment manager and publicist. He authored a memoir called The Fame Game (2022), which recounts his experiences managing, rehabbing, and spinning for seminal artists.

Ramon Hervey II was born in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a family with a deep appreciation for the arts, with his mother, Winifred Hervey, playing a significant role in his early life.

Hervey attended Lompoc Junior High School and Cabrillo Senior High School. Afterwards, he attended Whittier College and received his bachelor's degree in 1972.

Hervey's career began uniquely as a flight attendant for Pan American Airlines from 1973 to 1975, which was followed by a significant shift to the music industry. He first served as a publicist for Starlite Music Artists and then as an editor for Hamlett Marsh Publishers.

His early roles paved the way for a pivotal position at Motown Records from 1976 to 1977, where he contributed to the publicity campaigns of iconic artists such as Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross.

Following his tenure at Motown, Hervey joined Rogers & Cowan. In that position, he rose to become the director of music and talent as well as vice president of music. His client list during this period read like a who's who of the entertainment industry, including Richard Pryor, Bette Midler, and The Bee Gees.

In 1981, Hervey transitioned to The Gibson Group, eventually founding his public relations and management company, Hervey & Company. This venture led him to manage the careers of notable figures such as Andrae Crouch, Little Richard, Vanessa Williams, and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds.

Hervey's influence extended beyond music management into documentary film and television production. Notably, he served as executive producer for the award-winning documentary Chisholm '72— Unbought & Unbossed and contributed as a music supervisor to several other projects.

In 2022, Hervey published The Fame Game, a book offering an in-depth look into his four-decade career in the entertainment industry. The Fame Game explores the evolution of fame and the impact of social media on celebrity culture. He shares untold stories of A-listers in music, comedy, and film.
