J.J. McAvoy

J.J. McAvoy is a Canadian author of romance fiction, best known for Ruthless People, Children of Vice, and The Prince’s Bride series.

J.J. McAvoy (née Judy Onyegbado) was born in Montreal to Nigerian-born parents. She was raised in the United States and graduated from Carleton University with a degree in humanities in 2016.

McAvoy began her writing journey with poetry, transitioning to short stories and eventually completing their inaugural novel at the age of 19.

Her debut novel and the first in the series, Ruthless People (2014), achieved tremendous success as a bestseller. J.J. McAvoy is now the author of 7 series and several standalone novels totaling over 20 books.

Critics have compared Her Du Bells series to Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series, pointing out their noticeable similarities. The first book in the series, "Aphrodite and the Duke" (2022), garnered attention from Publishers Weekly. The publication remarked that although the romance's melodramatic appeal faces some hindrance from sporadic pacing and occasional awkward language, readers will readily form an attachment to the main characters.

In 2023 J.J. McAvoy stated that she wrote ten novels in two years. She draws inspiration from everything from Shakespearean tragedies to contemporary pop culture.
