The first book in the series, "Aphrodite and the Duke" (2022), garnered attention from Publishers Weekly. The publication remarked that although the romance's melodramatic appeal faces some hindrance from sporadic pacing and occasional awkward language, readers will readily form an attachment to the main characters.
In 2023 J.J. McAvoy stated that she wrote ten novels in two years. She draws inspiration from everything from Shakespearean tragedies to contemporary pop culture.
