Emery Lee is an American author known for her young adult novels, most notably Meet Cute Diary (2021) and Café con Lychee (2022). She has a background in creative writing and has worked as a writer, editor, and book reviewer. Born into a mixed-race family, Emery studied creative writing at university and has written novels, interactive fiction, short stories and webcomics. Her debut novel, Meet Cute Diary, is about Noah, a trans teenager who fabricates romance stories for a blog and becomes involved in a fake relationship to maintain its credibility. The novel was inspired by an "almost meet-cute" that Emery witnessed and has received critical acclaim, including being featured in ALA's Rainbow Booklist.
Her second novel, Café con Lychee (2022), tells the story of two teenagers, Theo Mori and Gabi Moreno, whose families run rival food businesses. Faced with the threat of a new fusion café, the boys must work together to save their family businesses while navigating their developing emotions. The book explores identity, cultural tensions and family dynamics.
Emery's works have been translated into several languages and have received starred reviews. She draws inspiration from her cultural background, anime and pop-punk music.
