“I want freedom. From Vision Tech.” Her eyes wander over to mine. “And from you.”

“I can’t live like this anymore. I can’t live without you.”

“I disagree. I don’t think anyone should be limited by what’s already been done. When we look at fictional characters, they aren’t bound by physical rules or fear or even history. These heroes are the very essence of what someone can accomplish without limits.”

“Ma’am, if you can’t convey the point of your lesson without getting impatient and snappy at your student, maybe you should pursue a different line of work.”

“No, but a drastic change out of nowhere? That has a deeper cause. People tend to only realize what’s important when it’s too late.”

“What are you doing?” I whisper.

“Going after what I want,” he says.

Shock climbs up my throat, fighting for dominance against the heat that’s surging through my veins.
