O Winston Link's famous black and white photos of steam engines invoke a Virginian Carillon player to accompany the train whistle going through a holler. Patty was one of the last to interview Link. The story was on NPR.

"Over the Grave of a Killer"
A Colorado Prison executioner stands over a grave with Patty and speaks his heart years after he pulled the lever to execute a murderer. "He was unloved in life and unmourned in death."


"Death Car Memories"
Patty speaks with Nelly Connally years after she lived through sitting in the car with JFK and her husband, John. As the limousine carrying the Connallys and the Kennedys wound its way through the friendly crowd in downtown Dallas, Nellie Connally turned to President Kennedy, who was in a seat behind her, and said, "Mr. President, you can't say Dallas doesn't love you." A recipient of a regional Edward R. Murrow Award.

"Oh Brother"
Chain gang inmate James Carter's song "Po' Lazerus" inspired the opening scene of "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" and won a Grammy Award. It also netted the Carter family thousands of dollars in royalties. The story was on NPR.
