The perineum is a group of muscles that are shaped like a “hammock”
between the pubic bone and the tailbone. It supports the abdominal organs
such as the bladder, uterus and rectum, and controls the evacuation of
stools, gas and urine. It also promotes the sensation of pleasure during
sexual encounters. And it facilitates the passage of the baby during
childbirth.
It is therefore a core support
area of the body, which is
often overlooked. A healthy
perineum prevents urinary or
anal incontinence, pelvic organ
descent, and allows for a fulfilling
sex life.
