The Brementown Musicians CD presents a story of four aging domestic animals who, after a lifetime of hard work, are about to be disposed of by their masters. In this slightly varied adaptation of the classic Grimm Brothers folktale, the animals, embarking on the road but not knowing where to go or what to do, are greeted by a guiding spirit who encourages them not to feel downtrodden or worthless but to recognize their inherent worth and talents by connecting to the music that resides inside them. All the animals have a characteristic musical piece that is unique to them which resonates their true nature.
As the story unfolds, children hear classical music drawn from three centuries of piano literature, with each piece varied in style, tempo, and temperament. The selections, chosen with children in mind, are short pieces taken from famous composers such as Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofieff. The interplay (though never overlap) of storytelling and music listening encourages children’s imagination while fostering an appreciation for the arts.
